A ceremony can be a simple toast between friends or a formal rite of passage. Our Ceremony wine is ideal for commemorating life’s ups, downs and in-betweens, until death do us part...

Consider this wine your personal invitation to experience something very special from Nat Komes of Flora Springs. Ceremony is a blend of old and new – a traditional Bordeaux red blend punched up with a healthy dose of Syrah. Says Nat, who designed the striking label: “We’ve brought back something from the past and made it new again. So new, that those gathered around the table are guaranteed to raise their glasses in celebration.” Nat’s label, and the wine itself, are designed to stand out from the crowd. His hope is that the success of Ceremony will make it a continued ritual at Flora Springs.

Ceremony is sourced from our family’s estate vineyards in Napa Valley, including those in the Oakville, Rutherford and St. Helena appellations, and combines several Bordeaux varieties plus a dash of Syrah. The grapes were hand-picked and sorted, cold soaked for four days, fermented in stainless steel and aged in French oak barrels for 19 months. The wine delivers loads of lush, juicy fruit – bright red cherry, black raspberry and cassis – plus notes of espresso, cola and dusty cocoa. Full-bodied and plush on the palate, this Napa Valley red holds on to enough acid to give it structure and mouthwatering length.

On the Vine

The 2015 vintage in Napa Valley will be remembered for high quality but low yields. The growing season began with warm temperatures in late winter and early spring resulting in an early bud break. In May, colder temperatures during bloom caused fruit set to be uneven, yielding a much smaller crop compared to earlier vintages. Winemakers and vineyard managers worked closely together as the season progressed to ensure grapes ripened uniformly. The harvest, which was in full swing by mid-August, was one of the earliest on record in Napa Valley, and most vintners completed picking by mid-October. Although the continuing drought was a concern around California, Napa Valley received 75% of its annual rainfall average in 2015 making it less worrisome for Napa vintners.
